Each of the New York State's Scenic Byways has a theme.
Either Scenic,
recreational, natural, historical, or cultural.
While consideration is being given to the creation of a Champlain Canal Trail, several other such routes are already recognized as offering some of the best opportunities to see New York State.
Among those byways already developed are:

Colonial Trail
200 miles long, this trail winds it's way from Scotia New York to Lake Placid, passing through the communities of Ballston Spa, Saratoga Springs, Schuylerville, Hudson Falls, Lake George, the West side of Schroon Lake and Ticonderoga.
Revolutionary Trail
158 miles long, stretching from Albany, the State's Capital to Port Ontario on Lake Ontario.
Adirondack Trail
Meandering for 188 miles, this trail begins in Fonda New York, and passes through Speculator, Indian Lake, Long Lake, Tupper Lake, Lake Clean and on to Malone, New York
Dude Ranch Trail
A 40 mile long excursion that loops between Lake Luzerne, Lake George, Diamond Point, Warrensburg, and Stony Creek.
Central Adirondack Trail
At 140 miles long, this trail passes through Glens Falls, Warrensburg, Indian Lake, Raquette Lake, Old Forge, and Rome New York.
Roosevelt-Marcy Trail
A 40 mile stretch between North Creek and Long Lake.
